The precious metal underground contributed to the rapid development of Nevada City and laid the base for its incorporation and California’s statehood. For the first time, individuals – not kings or sultans – could have gold for the taking. Culture, commerce and corruption flourished as the world rushed in to stake its claim.

THE GOLD RUSH AND ITS IMPACT
Hosted by Chris LeGate as Mark Twain with historian and author Gary Kurutz from the California State Library; with music by Rick Toles; a showing of 10 Days That Unexpectedly Changed America -- Part 6: Gold Rush (theatrical premiere, direct from The History Channel telecast on April 11); a staged reading of excerpts from Diary of a 49er by Foothill Theatre Company; and the BID’s Windows on History photo exhibit.

Tickets available at Nevada City Chamber of Commerce, 132 Main St. (530) 265-2692
