Nevada City Police Department
Nevada City has provided its own police service since it was first incorporated in 1851. Chief Louis Trovato, who has over 40 years law enforcement experience, runs a modern, well-equipped and highly trained force of motivated officers. The Department has nine full time officers supplemented by two additional on grants and eight reserve officers. A Sergeant and an officer patrol the streets and answer calls for service on each shift during the week. On weekend nights reserve officers supplement the deployment as needed. The department focuses on officers having one-to-one contact with the community whenever possible. They walk foot beats and during fair weather, officers, including the Chief, ride bicycles throughout the City. This is very effective in creating open communication with the community. Open communication is the key to maintaining a safe environment for all citizens. Close contact with the citizens keeps the officers in touch with what is really going on in the community and promotes support for the Department. Nevada City has one of the lowest crime rates and the safest streets in California. Chief Trovato attributes this to open communications with the county’s other law enforcement agencies. These agencies work in close harmony for the public safety. Chief Trovato says, “It takes coordination and communication between all the entities involved in public safety.”
The Department is located inside City Hall at 317 Broad St. in downtown Nevada City. Chief Trovato encourages everyone to come by and meet his officers who are available for ride-a-longs and presentations on crime and traffic safety. When you see an officer say hi, they are here for you. |
